about
Thanks for checking out my debut single "Mary" from my forthcoming EP :)
The single is about not being afraid to be vulnerable and take risks no matter who you are or how old you are. Its about having the strength to leave a comfortable mundane existence behind in search of enriching experiences and a new lease of life.
Verse 1:
I knew a girl called Mary, she lived down the road, well her husband was a man called Jim
He lived for the day, didn’t think of tomorrow and he drank just a bit too much gin
And when he drank out late, she’d wonder why, she stayed in this sleepy little town
So when he stumbled home late that night, well she left without even a sound
Pre-Chorus:
And she ran down the backstreets with a back-pack in hand, oh god what had she just done
Her husband who had hurt her with more than words, was also the father of her son
And that Bondi train was rolling, running away, leaving the past behind So, she slipped through that crack, man she never looked back, she was in for one hell of a ride
Chorus:
Mary, Mary where will you go Where are you running too now?
This train smells like smoke and a blind man’s hope but it promised her life somehow
Verse 2:
And the faces onboard, shed not seen before, some danced and begged for a fee
A wrinkled man reached deep in his pocket, said this is the place to be And the children they laughed, held hands and sang, trumpets began to play
And she saw through the crowd, it was night somehow, blank stares were lost to the day
Pre-Chorus:
So she sat in the back seat with a back-pack in hand, oh god what had she just done
Her husband who had hurt her with more than words, was also the father of her son
And that Bondi train was rolling, running away, leaving the past behind So she fastened her strap and she sat in the back, she was in for one hell of a ride
Chorus:
Mary, Mary where will you go Where are you running too now?
This train smells like smoke and a blind man’s hope, but it promised her life somehow
Bridge:
And the night turned to morning, dark turned to light, and her eyelids opened the day
She heard women speak football while men giggle and the elderly watch in dismay
And the Englishman, opposite, he sipped his Guinness, said what’s the craic today
And he winked his eye as she began to cry and said freedoms coming your way
Chorus:
Mary, Mary where will you go Where are you running too now? This train smells like smoke and a blind man’s hope but it promised her life somehow
Mary, Mary where will you go Where are you running too now? This train smells like smoke and a blind man’s hope but it promised her life somehow
